Dunhe Scholarly Foundation partly sponsors the 2017 International Workshop of Transcultural Studies. Dunhe Foundation is a sponsoring foundation, but it does not collect funding from the public. We normally do not initiate or manage a program, but sponsor cultural and educational programs with our own funding.
As a sponsoring foundation, we have an integrative goal: share the same goal with the explorers to offer accompany and backup in the search of Dao, the truth. You are explorers, and we hope that we are qualified to be your like-minded on the path of searching Dao. As explorers, there is a long way for you to go on the path of the transcultural studies. We hope that you will not feel that lonely, for you have us who accompany you on the journey at least. We hope to be the backup on your journey of exploration. This is my first point.
My second point is: What is the important capability of a hero in this era or in the next 100 years?
Red and Black is a well-known French classic novel, which is very influential to Chinese young people of the twentieth century. Red is the color of the military uniform of Napoleon time, while black is that of a priest. The author uses the two colors metaphorically. It might mean that after the French Revolution and Napoleon time, an ambitious people either join the army or the church. If we talk about the important capability of elite in this era regardless of the professions mentioned above, what could it be?
In the next one or two hundred years from now on, the most obvious feature of this era is that human live in the same community. It is not a personal aspiration, but the reality. We can see that neither nuclear pollution nor terrorism is bounded within one country. There is no need for PM2.5 to get a visa to travel to another country. In such an era, human share one community, however, people do not have a clear understanding of this community, because human have not understood its fate. How do we understand the fate? It requires that we try to understand the other from our own culture, and rethink ourselves from the reflection of the other. This is the transcultural vision, dream and will power.
It is you who are doing such pioneering work when human is turning to its maturity – knowing its fate in such an new period. To some extent, Dunhe Scholarly Foundation feels proud to be part of pioneers.
