UNESCO, Universities between France and China jointly organized the international conference

UNESCO, University Artois and Beijing Normal University jointly organized the international conference entitled “Chinese meta-cosmic speculation: cultures and languages in contact” from September 29 to October 3, 2017 in the 11th Hall of UNESCO in Paris, France. Meanwhile, the parallel sessions were held at University Artois by Confucius Institute in order to celebrate the fourth International Confucius Day. Scholars home and abroad delivered lectures on their specific researches in the last decades. The speakers and the titles of their talks: Léon Vandermeersch, corresponding academician of College of France, Professor of École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, France Confucius, the Instigator of the Hundred Master Schools Wang Ning, Senior Professor of Beijing Normal University, China, Chinese and Chinese Cultural Traditions Rémi Mathieu, Professor of Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique, France, Poetic language in Ancient China Christophe Harbsmeier, Professor of University of Oslo, Norway, Abstraction in Classical Chinese Wang Bangwei, Professor of Peking University, China, Buddhist Scriptures from India to China: Language, Text and Translation Jiang Zhujiu, President of American Go Association, USA, Thoughts of I-Ching in the Game of Go Bart Dessein, President of European Association for Chinese Studies, Professor of Ghent University, Belgium, The Art of Translation: Reshaping the Chinese Conceptual World Jin Siyan, Professor of University Artois, France, Transfert culturel: naissance de la versification de la poésie classique et impact des premières traductions bouddhiques en Chine du 5e siècle Dong Xiaoping, Professor of Beijing Normal University, China, Governance and Diversity: Chinese Folk Culture and Its Transmission with Vocabulary Thanks to the strong support of UNESCO, the conference was broadcast live in the Headquarters of United Nations in New York, USA. International Workshop of Transcultural Studies held by the Graduate School of Beijing Normal University consecutively provides the foundation for the above international conference. In the last three years, Professor Yue Daiyun from Peking University, Professor Léon Vandermeersch, Professor Wang Ning witness the birth and the rapid growth of transcultural studies at Beijing Normal University. In 2017, the number of enrolled students is three times than previous ones, with 49 universities involved. The professors from other countries include: Michel Zink, Academician of College of France, Perpetual Secretary-general of Inscriptions and Belles-Letters, Institute of France, Antoine Compagnon, Academician of College of France, Dr. T. Dammaratana, Ambassador of Peace, WFB President, UNESCO, Léon Vandermeers, École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales, John Lagerwey, Adjung of Ecole Pratique des Hautes Etudes, France, Jin Siyan, University Artois, France, Taras Victorovich Ivchenko, Russian State University for the Humanities, Russia, Ülo Valk, University of Tartu, Estonia. Chinese professors include: Wang Ning, Beijing Normal University, Cheng Zhengmin, Beijing Normal University, Li Qiang, Tsinghua University, Wang Bangwei, Peking University, Wang Yichuan, Peking University, Dong Xiaoping, Beijing Normal University, Han Qi, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Li Zhengrong, Beijing Normal University. Professor Reyila from Xijiang University and Professor Ma Zhongcai from Northwest University for Nationalities are also invited to attend the workshop, which combines the authoritative theoretical teaching with dialogues between the East and the West. Handouts are compiled into textbooks to train the graduates who have certain knowledge about their specific major. They are enabled to conduct international dialogues with international renown professors to gain spiritual treasure of transcultural studies. The theme of the 21st century is world peace and education, the construction of transcultural studies is a historical milestone with the strong support of UNESCO.
